Summary

GOP’s DOGE days have arrived on Capitol Hill. Yesterday, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-heads of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, were on Capitol Hill. And the nascent panel is already the basis of a turf war between different factions of the Republican Party. Jennifer Scholtes, the editor of POLITICO Pro’s budget and appropriations brief joins Playbook deputy editor Zack Stanton, to break down the battle lines and where insiders expect things to spill from here.

Good morning, everyone. I'm Playbook Deputy Editor Zach Stanton. It's Friday, December 6th,

0:10.5

and here's what's driving the day. With Joe Biden in Africa most of this past week,

0:14.6

and President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago, ahead of this weekend's trip to Paris, almost all the

0:19.2

important action in D.C. is happening on

0:21.2

Capitol Hill right now. So let's dig in. Pete Hegeseth, President-elect Trump's pick for Secretary

0:26.4

of Defense, continues to be in the fight of his political life. Yesterday, he met with more senators

1:08.1

But what should concern Hegeseth is that he didn't exactly win over any new

1:11.7

supporters, and he still seemed short of the 50 votes that he will need to get confirmed.

1:17.1

Last night we heard reports that President-elect Trump is not going to pressure senators to

1:22.1

support Heg-Seth. So, after a week of successive days where it seemed like Hegss's nomination was on its last

1:29.4

legs, we may actually see resolution here, one way or the other, in very short order.

1:35.2

On the other side of the hill, the House rejected two Democratic-led efforts to force the

1:39.8

release of Ethics Committee findings into former Congressman Matt Gates.
