0:00.0	Have you ever been asked the question, is faith a gift of God?
0:05.0	As Paul said to the church in Corinth, what do you have that you did not receive?
0:10.0	The truth is, all we are able to do can be seen as a gift from God.
0:16.0	For example, what if I were to ask you, is your next breath a gift from God?
0:21.7	You would say, of course it is.
0:23.9	But aren't you still responsible for how you use your next breath to praise him or to curse him?
0:30.4	What if I were to ask, is a great singer's ability to sing a gift from God?
0:35.7	Of course it is.
0:37.1	But isn't a singer responsible for how he
0:39.6	uses the gift God has given him, for good or for evil? The question, is faith a gift from God,
0:48.0	is the wrong question when it comes to the dispute that we have with our Calvinistic friends?
0:53.5	To get to our actual point of contention,
0:57.0	one must ask this question instead. Is faith an effectual or irresistible gift of God
1:03.4	only given to some and withheld from all others? The answer to that question is emphatically,
1:15.6	no, it's not. The Bible clearly teaches that all people are without excuse for their unbelief, but the Calvinistic doctrine teaches that mankind
1:21.2	cannot believe unless God gives them an effectual or irresistible gift of faith.
1:29.0	This way of thinking can lead some people astray.
1:32.2	For example, one influential Calvinist who has now become an atheist gives this testimony.
1:37.9	And with my Christian friends who try to convince me this, I say, listen, I don't know why you're trying to persuade me.
1:43.8	Because your own Bible says that it's a gift, that it's a gift, it's the work of the spirit
1:47.7	start to finish, it's a removing of a heart of stone or replacing with a heart of flesh.
1:51.3	That is not something you can do for me.
