Summary

In this episode, we will be discussing horrific instances of child abuse. Listener discretion is advised.

In 2018, a brave 17 year-old managed to escape the home where she had been held captive her entire life. She found a deactivated cell-phone that she took with her on her escape, and she called 911. She told police that she had been kept locked in a room for 20 hours a day and was allowed one shower per year.

When police arrived, they found TWELVE additional children locked in the house. Human feces, dead animals and rotten food covered the entire property. This was not a case of human trafficking or abduction though, this is the horrific case of the Turpin Family.

David and Louise Turpin had 13 children during their marriage. Outwardly, the parents portrayed the family as loving and close knit – they took the children on vacation to Disneyland and Vegas, where they all posed in matching outfits. In reality, they did not care for any of them and mistreated them in the worst possible ways. All of the children were uneducated and physically and emotionally abused. They used to eat ketchup, mustard and ice as there was literally nothing else to eat.

And what happened to some of the Turpin Children after they were rescued will break your heart.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss the case of the Turpin Family and their house of horrors.

It is what's day April 7th Thursday. It is a rainy, a crappy day here in New York.

0:37.1

Still cold, even though it's technically spring. It's depressing. Definitely the same here.

0:42.8

Rainy cold but I guess it's autumn will fall here. So to be expected but just the amount of rain

0:48.4

we've had is unbelievable. My husband was floating stuff down the driveway yesterday because

0:53.4

so much water it was like a river. I know but it's stopped for now so hopefully that's it for a

1:00.7

little while. Yeah I never even get good like storms because they always break up right before

1:06.4

they get to us. I live right near the Hudson River and then there's also some mountains so I don't

1:12.1

know if that just always breaks up the storm but whenever I see it coming on the radar I'm like oh

1:16.3

we're gonna get a big storm and always it like splits up right when it gets to us makes me so annoyed.

1:22.2

Definitely been a year of crazy weather. Yeah and I'm pretty excited here because today is the

1:27.0

last day of school for my kids. They're off after this for two weeks. I like them going to school

1:34.4

but I also like a time just to have a bit of a break. No activities or the activities stop for a few

1:38.8

weeks so it would be nice just to chill out and just calm down a bit because it's been a crazy

1:44.4

crazy few months. How does your school year work there? I feel like there's like different than ours.

1:48.7

I know it's different months. Yeah you get more like bigger breaks. Ours is calendar year so we have

1:54.8

our summer break from basically mid-December and the kids usually go back the first week in February

2:00.8

at the very end of January like so the summer break is usually six or seven-ish weeks and then

2:06.1

so then it has four terms so we've just finished term one they have two weeks they do another 10

2:12.0

or 11 weeks have another two weeks and then again so basically three kind of two-week breaks in the
