Hey, good morning to you. It is Sunday, January the 15th. I'm Ali Valshi. We begin with a dire

warning for the American economy, a debt ceiling showdown that's set to explode this week in Congress

with potentially disastrous consequences. But in order to understand what's at stake,

I'm going to start with a history lesson and an historic visit. On Friday, President Biden hosted

the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kushita at the White House. An important visit meant to highlight

the close relationship and the alliance between those two nations. Now, among the many topics

of discussion, Russia's war in Ukraine, China, the constant and escalating threat of North Korea,

and ways to make Japan a greater

military power, which is something the country has deliberately avoided in its post-World War

two existence. By the way, speaking of Russia's brutal war and Kashida's visit, Russia's former

President, Dmitri Medvedev, has reacted publicly to this meeting and what

Kashida said publicly stating that Kashita has shown complete subservience to the United

States and should ritually disembowel himself, which I admit is a little harsh to be discussing
