we're continuing our special podcast series. Today, Joy talks to Debbie Matt Nantles.

Here's Joy. Debbie and I are both original co-hosts and we both helped launch this show with

Barbara Walters, Meredith Eira and Star Jones in 1997. Today, we talk about how Debbie got the

job at just 22 years old, what it was like when Saturday Night Live started doing parodies of us

and how Debbie really felt when she was let go after one season. Here's our conversation.

I've missed you, Joy Behar. So, do you remember the audition that we did at the Essex House?

It was you, Meredith and Star and Barbara. We were the OGs. She was really watching. She was not

really in it. Oh, wait a second. No, that first group that sat down, she sat down with us and then

she didn't sit with the rest of the groups. Then she left. Remember, we never got offended and said,

yeah, everyone got offended and they thought it was fixed because what she likes that group right

away. Yeah, and then she got up and left and all the other people were like, why isn't Barbara

sitting with us? Who are those ladies? Why do they have like a leg up on us? Well, she liked

you because one of the reasons she liked you was because you imitated your Greek mother. She was

obsessed with that. That was the only reason that you got the job. If you want my opinion, Debbie,
