And on today's show we take a look at the public debate over one of the most hotly contested legal issues confronting America at the moment and that

involves bathroom use for transgender Americans. On April 19th the US

Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled in favor of Gavin Grimm, a 16-year-old transgender student in

Virginia who argued that Title IX, which prohibits gender discrimination in

any educational program that receives federal funding, requires that he be allowed to use the

boys restroom at school. The Fourth Circuit decision also applies to North

Carolina where a recently enacted law limits transgender people to bathrooms and

government buildings including public school,

that correspond to their sex at birth.
