Hello and welcome to this special Saturday edition of Coffee House Shots. I'm Tim Shipman,

the Spectator's political editor. Now what you're about to listen to is a panel discussion that took place at the spectator on the future of the right,

organised by the think tank Onward. Gavin Rice from Onward sat down with Conservative MP's Robert Jenrick and Nick Timothy, the fore-the-fellow MP and now broadcaster Miriam Kates, and the American voice you're going to hear is Henry Olson of the Ethics and Public Policy Centre in Washington, D.C. Now this is an interesting discussion, and if you want to see more on this event, I did a blog on it at the time under the headline, what the Tories should learn from Trump. And it's an interesting conversation about where the similarities lie between Britain and America, the populist right on both sides, and what lessons can be drawn, but also quite importantly,

I think, what lessons should not be drawn? You'll hear Robert Generic warning that Britain is headed for a debt crisis, but he says British Conservatives must take a different approach

from the American right. Generic and Timothy both called for Britain to re-industrialise,

which is something that Kemi Badenock has taken up in her interview with me in The Spectator this week as well,

particularly on energy policy, the British right tried to learn from Trump's devotion to fossil fuels there.
