| 0:00.0 | Hi, everybody. Welcome to Scoop where you're going to get the scoop today on the first debate of the |
| 0:09.7 | 24 election season. Yes, we're still in 2023. Let's not get confused. Let's not get ahead of |
| 0:14.4 | ourselves. But it is the first debate of the 2024 presidential election cycle. And so what I'm calling this today |
| 0:22.5 | is your debate debrief. Hopefully you are well rested and you didn't spend hours up last night |
| 0:28.9 | watching the debate and all the coverage afterwards. I did that for us. And that's how I'm |
| 0:36.0 | using some of that research and that reporting to hopefully do a condensed version for you about what's going on and why it matters. We're going to do things a little bit different today, which I'll explain in just a moment. But let's talk about why this story matters. Why does this debate really matter? And why are we sitting up and paying attention to this? Well, it does matter because it is the first debate from any political party. |
| 0:55.0 | But in this case, it's the Republican Party. |
| 0:57.0 | These are going to be the challengers to President Biden. |
| 1:01.0 | At this time, the Democrats have one candidate for president. |
| 1:04.0 | We don't see any planned scheduled debates. |
| 1:06.0 | So this is the beginning of the debate season. |
| 1:08.0 | This is an opportunity for the Republican Party |
| 1:11.2 | and these individual candidates to make a case to the American people on a very big stage |
| 1:16.0 | about why they want the job and why the Republicans should be back in the White House. |
| 1:25.7 | And so there's a lot of reasons to pay attention here, |
| 1:28.6 | not just for the content and the substance of the conversation, but also tone and style. |
| 1:35.1 | It's all wrapped up in a debate. And a debate is a live, televised, streamed events. |
| 1:42.2 | It doesn't really matter, by the way, whether it's broadcast television or |
| 1:44.9 | streams online. When something's a live event, it provides a real opportunity to the audience. |
| 1:50.9 | And I want to actually talk to you about that first. So one of the things we're going to do today, |
| 1:53.8 | as you know, I'm really focused on nonpartisan news. I want to give you both sides of the story. |
| 1:59.1 | I want to give you something to consider. But today, I also want to treat Scoop in the way that I was hoping Scoop would work periodically. |
