Today's episode is a love story, a hot love story. We first shared this conversation between

actor Nisi Nash and her partner, the musician Jessica Betz, or J.B., during the summer of 2022.

It was the third time I'd interviewed Nisi, first for fresh air, and again during a show in Los Angeles in front of a live

death sex and money audience. This taping was more intimate in the best way. We sent an audio

producer to set up microphones to capture Nisi and J.B. talking as they sat on their couch next to each

other. And you could hear how rock-solid their foundation of values is

and how that makes room for a lot of humor.

I thought of that when I watched Nisi at the Emmys back in January

as she accepted her award for outstanding supporting actress

for her role in the series Dahmer.

And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me.

For believing in me and doing what they said I could not do. And I want to say to myself

in front of all you beautiful people, Gone, girl, with your bad self.

You did that.

Nisi was asked about that moment in her speech backstage, why she wanted to take the time

to thank herself.

And she said this.

Well, because, you know, I'm the only one who knows what it costs me.

I'm the only one who knows how many nights I cried because

I couldn't be seen for a certain type of role. I'm the one who knows what it's like to go

through divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out and you still got to go home and

you have children in a whole life. And so I'm proud of myself.
