I'm Anna Sale, and here on the BBC World Service, I'm going to introduce you to some of the people

on the stories from my show, Death, Sex, and Money from WNYC Public Radio in New York.

When we talk about money, there's room for conflict.

Our disagreements about money can have major costs.

A 2009 study found that American couples who argued about money once a week were more than 30%

more likely to divorce than those that argue just a few times a month.

But we do need to talk about money in love.

And I found that when we do, there are some really good stories.

I am bad with money.

I am more than him.

I think I make good money, but I really don't know.

We keep our running tally.

Yeah, bottom line is, my husband and I are avid savers.

But I'm constantly questioning if what I make is enough.

And I decided I couldn't stick it out with somebody who was financially irresponsible.

These are just a sample of the stories I received when I asked listeners for stories about money and love.

You know, I was expecting a lot about how couples balance their checkbooks together.

But I heard a lot more about the much trickier and ongoing work of balancing power in relationships.
