Hey now, we open this episode of the Getting Over Wrestling podcast, remembering John Huber,

aka Brody Lee, aka Luke Harper, who died over the weekend at age 41 of a lung disease

that his wife said is non-COVID-19 related. Just crushing news on a holiday weekend, obviously, or any weekend.

Normally, I would write a bunch of bullet points when we do this, but it's probably best

to speak about Brody extemporaneously because, you know, we've lost a lot of people this year

and throughout our entire lives

watching professional wrestling, all of the legends, all of the big names who have passed.

But it's luckily rare that it happens to someone who's a contemporary, someone who is a current

active performer.

And when it comes to Brody Lee, you know, most of us began to know him at

least as Luke Harper. You know, he was Brody Lee in the independence, but I think only so many

people, you know, knew him from that day. So my introduction to him was as Luke Harper with the Wyatt

family. And I know he didn't have all of the success that we, I use the

royal we there, wanted him to in WWE. But I still do believe it's ultimately where we got his

best work, largely because his AEW career by comparison was unfortunately so short. You know, you look back at what he did

in WW. He was an intercontinental champion. Unfortunately, it was only for one month, a two-time tag team

champion. He won the NXT tag team titles. And then, you know, certainly eventually became

the second ever TNT champion over in AEW.

But I thought the best work of Harper's career, we'll talk about Brody Lee in a moment,

the best work of Harper's career came in 2016 to 2017.

And it was during a time where WWE Creative had really fallen off a cliff.

They reunited the Wyatt family with Bray Wyatt.
