Tim Kewin, anybody who spent any time in the Bay Area knows just how much a part of life natural disasters are there.

But the topic we're here to discuss today is more of a man-made disaster, am I wrong?

And Oakland, California, a proud city

with a proud sports history, finds itself

in this sad situation because of specific individuals and specific decision-making bodies that made the choices to get us here.

It's a long and winding path to look at what has happened in Oakland, but Oakland is not a bad city.

Oakland is not a bad sports town. It was not somehow destined to lose all three of its major sports teams because of anything

it did or is. I mean, those teams left because three sets of owners and leagues sort of acting separately, but all in their own interests, they chose to do this.

You know, this isn't the first time you've discussed this on this show but

Tim we're trying to embark on something reasonably important here. Can you explain the folks

what the mission is that you have chose to accept to quote a famous movie? the to first state the obvious, which is that in 23 days on the afternoon of September 26th,

the Oakland A's will play the Texas Rangers in the last game ever in the city they've called home for 57 seasons.

And it's just the culmination of decades of decisions and negotiations and

missteps. Started back. decisions and

started back in 2019 when in the NBA the warriors decided to in the NBA the warriors decided to leave

Oracle Arena for their sparkling new chase center across the bay in San Francisco.

Less than a year after that in the NFL, the Raiders left for Las Vegas. And now finally, after years of threats and

recriminations and back and forth, sits the A's turn to turn their backs on

Oakland before, in their minds anyway heading to Las Vegas.

That means that big-time sports in Oakland at least what we know it as in our in our

lifetimes it will cease to exist.
