It's directed by Volker Schlondorf who is a German film director and writer.

He won an Oscar for 1979's The Tin Drum. Have you seen that film Jim?

He also worked a screenplay for this movie, as well as the play, The Crucible, as well as the 1990 Winona Writer adaptation of Same. the Dustin Hoffman in 1985 took to the small screen to play willy loamock here
