Abortion was all over the headlines this week.

And for good reason.

On Friday, April 8, two judges, one in Texas and one in Washington State, issued conflicting

rulings around Miffy Pristone, also known as the abortion pill.

The FDA approved the drug more than 20 years ago.

The ruling from Judge Kazmarick out of federal district court in Texas, reports to stay

FDA's approval of Miffy Pristone.

That's UC Berkeley law professor Kiarra Bridges.

At the same time, a federal district judge and Washington State issued a ruling that required

the FTA to make a Miffy Pristone available in 18 jurisdictions that had challenged restrictions

on the use of Miffy Pristone.

So that's why these rulings are diametrically opposed to one another.

But here's the thing, although Judge Kazmarick is in Texas and although Judge Rice is in

Washington, they're federal district courts.

So this isn't actually a matter of state law at all.

This is about federal law.

The Department of Justice almost immediately appealed the Texas ruling.

And since then, the fifth circuit court of appeals has ruled that Miffy Pristone will

remain available.
