Happy July 4th!

This week's Deadpod takes place back on July 1, 1980 in San Diego California, where the Dead would play a very nice show at the Sports Arena. This week we will hear the 1st set, which opens with a great Jack Straw > Franklin's Tower combo. They only did this opening combo eight times, but I think its a great way to open a show. El Paso and Tennessee Jed folow, then another combo, Lazy Lightning into Supplication. A very nice Althea follows, with Jerry in good form. Then Bobby finishes this first set with another combo, Lost Sailor into Saint of Circumstance,

0:04.3	This is a professor, I'm so glad to pick us up this week.
0:07.4	This week I decided to bring in July with a show from July the 1st 1980 1980 at San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California.
0:17.0	Turns out this was the last time the dead would play California for a couple of years,
0:21.0	supposedly because of the encounter that Bobby had with the local
0:25.2	John Don's after the show.
0:27.4	He objected to apparently a rather rough treatment that one of the promoter's secretary had for possession of Coke and was charged
0:37.5	with obstructing an officer and spent at least part of the night in jail before retiring
0:42.4	to Bill Walton's abode.
0:45.0	Anyway, this is quite an interesting show.
0:47.2	It starts out with a really nice jackstrand to Franklin's Tower,
0:50.4	one of only a few times, I think,
0:52.1	eight altogether that they did that opening segue.
0:55.0	Following that's a nice El Paso, Tennessee Jed,
0:59.0	and then another segue, Lazy Lightning into supplication.
1:02.0	And then another segue. Segue, Lazy Lightning Indus supplication.
1:03.0	And then another Segway, lost Sailor into scene of circumstance.
1:07.5	Unusual for a first set, but quite well played.
