Summary

This week the Deadpod goes back to a crazy show that happened back on June 21, 1971, which was only the band's second performance in Europe.

Apparently they were invited to a outdoor festival in France by a rich fashion designer, who paid for the their transport, equipment and entourage to travel to Europe to play at this free festival. Well they were put in up some kind of nice Chateau, and the festival was rained out with a huge downpour. They sat around for a day or two and decided to break out the instruments and play at the grounds of the Chateau for the locals and those who traveled with them. The result is what we have here.. apparently the Chateau had quite a nice wine cellar which was liberated for the event and the audience spent a good deal of the time throwing each other into the pool..

I'm not at all sure that there were 'sets' in this show - this is how deadlists.com broke it down so I went with that - we'll hear the remainder next week..

0:05.0	you could pick us up this week. This week I'm going to play a show that's kind of unique in
0:09.3	Grateful Dead history. It was the second time the band traveled to Europe. They were
0:14.1	invited by a French fashion designer to put on a free show over in France on and what happened was they were put up
0:24.7	at this nice chateau apparently used to be owned by or used to be occupied by the composer
0:30.6	Chopin and but the free festival was there was a huge downpour and the festival was canceled.
0:37.9	The band was stuck in the chateau for a few days.
0:41.0	They decided to pull out their instruments and play there on the grounds.
0:45.5	They did so on June 21st, 1971, played for about three hours for some local folks
0:52.0	and those of the entourage that came with them.
0:54.8	Apparently they broke into the wine cellar.
0:56.7	Everybody had a wonderful time.
0:58.2	They were throwing each other in the pool.

1:02.1	And the band put on a quite a respectable show.
1:04.4	I think it's quite enjoyable.
1:05.5	It's nice recording.
1:07.1	And that's what we're going to hear this weekend next.
