Summary

This week's Deadpod features a fine second set from the band's return to the stage in 1976. I really like how they have changed up the set list here, and they start out with the debut performance of Samson and Delilah.

A nice, very new Crazy Fingers goes into a haunting Wharf Rat. Let It Grow follows and this second set spot suits the song in that the musicians have a chance to explore some new ground here. Roses comes out of drums and then (!) Around and Around. For me the highlight of this set follows, a slower more precise perhaps, Help->Slip->Frank.. the jamming on this one is superb and its so easy to get lost in.. Saturday night ends the set and they return for an unusual Wheel encore..

represented the Dead's return to the stage to live performance after a 20 month hiatus took place back on June the 3rd 1976 at the Paramount Theater in Portland Oregon.

0:22.0

The second set's quite good. It starts out with the

0:25.1

Premier, the very first live version of Samson and Delilah. Then goes into a

0:29.2

very dreamy crazy fingers into a nice slow wharf wrap very nicely done then let it grow it must have been the roses around and around

0:41.0

Notice how unusual this the placement of these songs in the second set is, especially that let it grow.

0:47.0

I think it really sounds great in the second set in this set anyway. Roses are always a favorite of mine. After

0:55.2

the round and round they do probably the highlight of the second set which is a

0:58.3

very unusual help slip frank. I think you'll hear that it's very different sounding than the speedier versions that

1:06.7

came along afterwards. You can get lost in this. It's a very dreamy sounding. I think it's

1:11.7

quite interesting.

1:13.0

They then go into one more Saturday night and the encore, a kind of unusual version of the wheel,

1:20.0

not my favorite version ever, but still it's interesting to hear.

1:23.0
