Hello and welcome to Deadpod for the week of May the 22nd, 2006.

This is a professor, I'm so glad you could pick us up this week.

This week on Deadpod for Memorial Day weekend, we're heading to NASA Veterans Coliseum again on Long Island

for the Grateful Dead Spring Tour stop on May the 8th, 1981.

This is, of course, early 80s Brent era, and you can really hear the band locked in. Jerry's

in good voice. Brent adds that bright, bouncy edge that he really brought to the band during

this time. So things are moving forward without losing anything. I think it's quite good.

We'll start today with the first set. It's a tight set that runs from Jack Straw and Peggyo through Althea

and a strong let it grow before closing with Don't Ease be in.

Next week we'll stay here in Nassau and bringing the second set

with a big shakedown street opener, a nice tear-up and station,

into playing in the band, and a powerful finish to carry us into the early summer.
