Hello, I'm welcome to the Dead Pot for the week of May the 12th, 2017.

This is a professor, so glad to pick us up this week.

This week I'm going to bring you a really the last show I haven't played from this outstanding week 40 years ago in

1977. This comes to us from Veterans Memorial Coliseum New Haven Connecticut, May the 5th, 1977.

This is a stupendous first set.

That's really one of the best ever.

The band, of course, is very tight as they were throughout that month of May 1977 they listen to each other

they're playing a way they really never replicated before or after it's a quite a different gelling of the sound from 76. Everything's coming

together and the band's playing with a great deal of power and tightness and it shows in this great first set song opener, Promised Land.

I mean it's usually a throwaway tune, but here it's really done well.

I think you'll really enjoy it.

Sugarie follows, it's a magnificent

sugary, one of the best ever, 15 minutes or so long. It's got three different jams

in it that Garcia lays out and I think you'll find it to be very interesting and worth repeated listings.

Mama tried into El Paso Follis, these are not throwaways, are done very well.

Tennessee, Jed, looks like Rained, Lazy Lightning in the supplication, Peggy O very nicely done,

and they closed set one with a nice music never stopped.

I can tell you a lot more about each of these songs but they're they're all

outstanding and I think quite worthy of your time it's really about 90 minutes of
