Summary

Spring is finally arriving around here and my thoughts turned to the great Spring tour of Europe 72. Since that tour is completely released on the box set I am going to share with you this week a wonderful set from the fall of 1972. This show took place on October 27th, 1972 in Columbus Ohio. I don't have, nor do I believe there exists, a copy of the first set that matches the quality of the audience recording of set 2 that I've chosen for this week's Deadpod. This is said to be Bear's recording and I would not doubt that from the quality - I do think you'll enjoy it. Beyond that the performance is first rate. Especially from Truckin' through The Other One, to a Mississipi Half-Step(!) the band is on fire. I'm a huge fan fo the Uncle John's encore as well.. a great set from a great year.. I hope you enjoy this one!

This is Professor I'm so glad you could pick us up this week.

0:07.0

This week I've been in the mood to hear some 1972 dead because of course

0:12.0

great concerts that went down in Europe in

0:14.4

spring of 72 since most of those since all of those are now out on CD I try to

0:19.4

avoid featuring those on the dead pod commercial, but I found came across one this week, a show this week from that year that I really had to share with you.

0:30.0

This is going to be the second set only because of recording problems with the first set.

0:35.0

From the band's performance October 27th 1972, a Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio.

0:42.1

This is a soundboard audience mix. Most of the first

0:45.6

part comes from an audience recording. It sounds great. Supposedly recorded by Bear.

0:50.4

I think you'll enjoy the quality throughout.

0:53.0

It starts out with the greatest story ever told.

0:55.0

Ramble on Rose, then we get into some really great 72 dead, trucking into the other one.

1:00.0

The transition between the two is spectacular.

1:02.0

Then they go into Mississippi half-step, uptown,

1:05.1

toodal-loo. You know how many times they've done that out of other one? Never. No other times.

1:10.1

It's great. It sounds great. Morning dew follows. It's a very nice version of that.

1:15.0

Following that is that tomorrow is forever and frankly there are Donna and Jerry are a little bit out of sync there, but it's still an interesting song.

1:24.1

Promised Land follows and then a great version of Deal, always hot during 1972.

1:29.6

They close the set with Sugar Magnolia and come back with a great Uncle John's band, Encore.

1:34.7

I think you'll enjoy this one.

1:36.5

It is, as I said, audience recording, it suffers some of those issues, but they're kind of fun
