Summary

This week's Deadpod features a quite wonderful show from 1977. This show took place back on March 19th 1977 at Winterland in San Francisco. Perhaps overlooked a bit because of the band's iconic performances in May of that year, this show features a huge first set (both in terms of length as well as power of performance). The band plays a number of great classic first set songs, and plays them all very well, before breaking into a  the second part of this set which is almost a second set itself - Estimated, Terrapin and then a 30 minute trifecta of Playin->Samson->Playin that features some truly spectacular exploration from Garcia.

Do yourself a favor and spend some time with this set..

Bertha bands it starts out hot out of the gate that very tight Keith sounds

0:41.4

great on this one then Then mama tried. Bob's voice here is really

0:45.8

strong. Sounds so young and good. Jerry's guitar sounds like little little flower buds coming up out of the ground.

0:53.6

So it's so nice throughout a really nice song.

Next we have a song that never fails, the first few notes of which never

1:02.4

failed to send some chills down my spine and that's

1:05.7

loser and the way Jerry played that in 77 is great. His singing is fantastic, there's a lot of

1:11.2

vibrato in his voice, I think you'll really enjoy it.

1:14.0

After that, Big River, a real rocker, very nice work by the rhythm section and by Bobby on this one.

1:19.0

After that, they love each other a song that I often don't really care for that much but Keith piano makes it quite worth it

1:26.4

While listening to on this version look like looks like rain follows. It's a very nice soulful performance. Great. I really love Donna's
