Summary

This show marks a significant event in the band's history - the last show with Keith and Donna in the group. It takes place on February 17, 1979 in Oakland. By this time, Keith's contributions had been steadily decreasing and while Donna was still, in my opinion, adding to the sound, it was clear that a change was going to have to happen.

This first set features the return of 'Greatest Story Ever Told' from a five year absence, as well as that last 'Passenger' with Donna (to my ears it never sounded right without her). 'Don't Ease' marks a return appearance as does 'High Time' as the band was mixing up the setlist which had grown a bit stale..The closing 'Lazy Lightin'>Supplication' is a clear highlight here....

0:06.8	This week I decided to bring you a seminal show in the band's history.
0:10.1	Comes to us from the Oakland Alameda County,
0:12.4	Kelsey and Marina in Oakland, California on February 17th, 1979.
0:17.6	It was a Saturday night.
0:19.3	This was Keith and Donna's last show with the band.
0:21.6	And Keith's playing had been increasingly
0:24.8	disappointing over the past year and almost absent
0:28.3	completely at the end here.
0:30.6	Donna however I think had taken a major, a more prominent role in the band.
0:36.3	And it was kind of sad to see her go in my opinion.
0:39.2	However, this last show is kind of interesting.
0:42.4	They bring out some songs they hadn't played in quite a while.
0:45.8	Their set list had gotten a bit stale,
0:47.4	so they brought out some songs that had been absent.
0:49.8	That's the opener here in set one.
0:52.4	Greatest story ever told.
0:53.5	That hadn't been played since 74.
0:56.1	Garcia does a fine job on it.
0:58.2	Don't ease me in was kind of absent for a while.
