Summary

Hard to believe but it almost LENT already! And that of course means its Mardi Gras time! This next show up on our plate is from Mardi Gras 1986 - a request from a great friend of the Deadpod - from February 11th, 1986. This is one of those great Oakland Mardi Gras runs where the Neville Brothers opened for the boys (and we'll hear them on the second set next week). This week's first set, although ragged at times, and with Jerry's voice not exactly perfect, is still marked by alot of enthusiasm and good vibes. My favorites from this first set include a raging Minglewood, and a nice set closing Bird Song->Music Never Stopped->Might As Well..

next week in honor of Fat Tuesday a great Iko :)

Grateful Dead - February 11, 1986
Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center - Oakland, CA

Set 1:
China Cat Sunflower ->
I Know You Rider
New Minglewood Blues
Dupree's Diamond Blues
Me And My Uncle ->

With Fat Tuesday rolling around next Tuesday, I thought it only appropriate that we pick out a show that was one of the band's

0:17.0

Marty Gros shows. This is a request from one of our great friends of the Dead Pod,

0:22.0

a performance that the Dead did back on February 11th, 1986 at the Henry Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, California.

0:29.0

Now, 86 is perhaps not my favorite ear for Grateful Dead Music.

0:33.8

Jerry's voice is a little ragged at times and the band's a little bit ragged in this

0:37.2

performance but they're having a raging good time and I think it's pretty

0:40.9

infectious and I think you'll enjoy it too.

0:44.0

The show will hear the first set of this week.

0:47.0

It was a show in which the Nevil brothers opened for the dead and they will sit in on set two, a good portion of set two.

0:54.0

But here on the first set, they open up with China Cap Sunflower and the I Know You Rider.

0:58.0

Very short segue between the two.

1:00.0

Then Weir, it really does a nice job on New Minglewood Blues.

1:04.0

Jerry does an excellent version of Dupreeze Diamond Blues.

1:07.0

Then we go to me and my uncle Linda Mexicali Blues.

1:10.0

And the band Jerry comes back with a nice bird song,

1:14.8

into the music never stopped, into, might as well as a closer.

1:18.9

And Jerry's voice a little bit ragged by the end of the first set,

1:21.5

but still quite a fun show and you can tell the bands

1:24.3

having a good time.

1:25.3

Hope you enjoyed as well when you remind you that the DeadPods brought to you by
