Hello and welcome to Deadpot for the week of January 22nd 2010. This is a professor. I'm so glad you could pick us up this week.

January 19th marked the 75th birthday of a unique character of course in the history of the Grateful Dead,

Alsy Bear Stanley. And Alsy, of course, was known for many years as being this front sound man for the band

back in the early days and of course for some of his chemistry work as well. And of course then he became a master jeweler. He lives in Australia now, but he's turned 75.

And to mark the occasion this week, a good friend Taping Buddy and a person who runs a lossless legs board on the internet put out a tape that was recorded by Bear.

It's a single 90 minute tape of the Grateful Dead's performance at the Greek Theater in Berkeley,

California, June the 20th, 1986.

And what we've got is what Bear has taped for us.

It's a very nice sounding tape, I think you'll really enjoy it. There's a few things missing.

We're going to do Set 1 in the midnight hour, Mississippi Half Step El Passo, West L.A.

Fadeaway, me and my uncle in the Mexicali Blues blues candy man and let it grow there is a tape

flip and let it grow from the second set uncle John's band into playing in the band and

it comes a time then there's a couple things missing drum space and miracle then black Peter around and round Then Black Peter,

Peter, around and round and round and good love in the encore, which was Mighty Quinn,

is also not present on the tape.

There's a good deal of reverberb in this tape, but it's a very nice, very nice sounding tape, and it was a wonderful show and everybody who talked about what a great time they had, and I think it's reflected in the great music on this tape.
