Summary

A real classic recording of some outstanding good ol' Grateful Dead this week, as we enjoy the band's performance on June 27th, 1969 at Veterans Auditorium in Santa Rosa California. This is one long set, as there were several bands on the bill this night and we get to hear some of the first performances of several songs destined to become classics. Slewfoot - the opening number wasn't one of those, but this is likely to be something you've never heard before - an old Johnny Horton number, with Jerry on Pedal Steel (he would also be on pedal steel guitar on Dire Wolf and Green Green Grass of Home on this set). Mama Tried follows, the 4th time the band has played it, even more country sounding than it would sound in years to come. A beautiful High Time follows, in only its third appearance.. Dupree's Diamond Blues follows then Me & My Uncle, still new in the band's rotation. A very different opening to Casey Jones is a treat to hear, as is Bobby handling the vocals on Dire Wolf. Other highlights include Pigpen on his only number here, "Big Boss Man", and of course Dark Star and St. Stephen.. Green Green Grass of Home, was made popular by Porter Wagoner on the country charts around this time..

0:06.7	This week I'm going to go flip the way back machine back to 1969 and bring us a show from June 27th 1969 at Santa Rosa
0:17.0	California Veterans Auditorium. This is a really interesting show a request
0:21.5	from great listener supporter of the dead pod, and it starts out with
0:27.7	very interesting Jerry's on Petal Steel.
0:29.8	We start out with a Slofoot song that probably most of you aren't familiar with but
0:34.9	you will be after night. They go into a slower version of Mama Tride into a
0:38.9	beautiful high time. I mean Jerry sounds so young and exuberant on this it's just wonderful
0:43.8	Dupree's Diamond will be as follows me and my uncle then a nice jam and the
0:48.2	Casey Jones played a little different tempo you remember a lot of these songs were
0:52.2	still fairly new to the
0:53.8	band so they play them a little bit differently than usual. That's the case with
0:57.4	Dyer Wolf which follows with which has Bob Weir doing vocals.
1:03.0	A very unusual version from what we're used to hearing.
1:06.0	Sitting on top of the world falls into a great pig pen version, a big boss man.
1:10.0	Then we have a nice long dark star into St Stephen into the 11, a short version of the 11.
1:18.5	It's only the first vocals and the initial jam.
1:22.0	Into the green-green grass of home with Jerry again on
1:26.4	pedal steel they come back for an encore it's all over now baby blue it's cut a
1:30.9	little bit but still a great version and Jerry sounds great on it.
1:34.7	So hope you enjoy this one.
