It's a new game. We're joined by a very new and special guest Luke Westaway. Luke say hi. Hi, hi. Thank you for joining us. Oh my goodness. Look at you. Yeah, look at me here. Rosie cheeks ready to ready to go. Yeah. All right. Let's get into it.

So the first episode of Oxford blades in the dark, which we'll outline in a second went out on outside extra. That's your YouTube channel. Luke on the 8th of January 2021. So it's well over two years old. Oh gosh. Wow. I don't know if it feels less long than that or a lot more long than that.

Wow. A different time. Oh, yeah. Okay. And so are we going to what do you want to know about blades in the dark? I suppose, you know, that we should approach this for folks who are fans of the podcast might not know anything about other tabletop systems, right?

Yeah. That's right. I mean, obviously I know it inside out and Luke being our game. What do we call it in blades that are game master game game master. Okay.

Luke haven't been our GM is the experts. If you don't know other tabletop games, then yeah, Luke, take it away. Tell us about blades in the dark. What is?

Okay. So blades in the dark is a tabletop game like D&D. It is a cooperative fantasy game that players play sort of with with a guiding games master GM hand.

So instead of Johnny running the game for this one for these blades in the dark seasons, I was running it.

It is a dark Victorian fantasy crime simulator is probably the best way to put it. It's written by John Harper. It's really, really excellent fun.

And the basic premises that the players form a gang of thieves in this very, very murky sort of crime riddled Victorian city. It's quite steampunky and such.

And basically get up to all sorts of heists and other criminal shenanigans and the game is built around enabling that. So we will explain, you know, how the mechanics work and you'll pick everything up to go along and don't worry.

I think it's actually quite a lot more straightforward than Dungeons and Dragons in terms of rules and stuff. So you will absolutely get it.

But yeah, this was our, this was our first attempt, basically at doing a kind of spin-off series to two walks venture. And yeah, I couldn't be happy with how it went and I couldn't be more excited for you listener to get to embark on this journey with us perhaps for the first time if you didn't, if you didn't watch the videos on YouTube.

Yep. And this first episode is known as Dead Man's Dead. It includes character introductions. Yeah, each and every one of the characters, which the lightfully includes Johnny as a player this time. Yes, Johnny's character is incredible.

Yeah, yeah, it is.

Everyone's character is incredible. Johnny nailed it. No, I know. You all did. You all did. I think everyone nailed characters that are not alike to their

Dungeons and Dragons, Oxford, venture characters, which I think was the main thing that I was interested in seeing.

I think that is a tricky part where we were all trying quite hard to devise something distinct from our original D&D characters. Yeah, but then, you know, everyone has a kind of an archetype that they think sort of trend towards. So I think that I think you'll find it interesting that everyone's characters have

certain similarities and also very obvious differences from their Dungeons and Dragons characters. Yes, yes, the characters all have something in common with the people who are playing them.

I think so they're kind of like a degree removed from their

Oxford, D&D counterparts, but you know, they sort of they do have that link because they're all being played by the same person. So like you can never escape that you can see like, you know, and these personality, I can see Andy's real personality in elements of Corazon.

And elements of Edward is his blade in the dark character. That's true. You know, that's that's true for everyone. So yeah, it was it, but what is it? What a thrill it was to see all these cool new characters come to life.
