Welcome to another edition of The Schmidt Storm. You have questions. I got answers. Let's get going.

0:06.9

The first question is, what does it say about the United States Congress that a member, a woman from Texas named Kay Granger, could literally go missing, could shut down her offices and nobody would know about it.

0:23.6

Congresswoman Granger was discovered in a long-term care facility after going missing for a

0:30.6

long time with nobody knowing. Her offices were shut down, though her staff was still being paid by you,

0:40.0

the taxpayer. What does it say about Congress? It says nothing good. A member of Congress went

0:46.7

missing. And the truth of the matter is, we have a very, very broken system of government.

0:54.0

There are three things that have broken it. Money,

0:57.6

of course, redistricting, where the members picked their voters, not the other way around,

1:40.3

They cover it to sell ads to lobbyists. They dress up trivia and call it news. That's what Politico is.

1:50.4

So in an environment that's completely uncaring, utterly transactional, that is a gerontocracy

1:58.3

filled with people who don't have to run in elections to be elected once they are

2:04.7

elected, it's not surprising at all. But it shows how completely, utterly broken the American media is.

2:13.7

And by the way, Texas is not a news desert. Texas is an American megastate, filled with cities,

2:21.8

with million-person populations, filled with robust media institutions, newspapers, and television.

2:32.0

And yet, who here is K. Granger? And the truth is, what's covered in Washington

2:37.6

is the freak show, not the members of Congress. So the truth is, she may not be the only one

2:45.1

missing. If you look at, the past is prologged because nobody pays attention to anything these people do,
