0:13.0	Today we drop back in on the book of Hebrews and its rich descriptions of Jesus and His
0:17.0	supremacy over all things.
0:19.5	Chapter 7 opens by continuing to compare him to the Old Testament priest, Melchizedek.
0:24.3	Some scholars believe he was a Christ type, while others believe he was God the Son, making
0:28.6	a special appearance on earth before he was born as Jesus.
0:31.8	They certainly have a lot in common.
0:33.9	For instance, Melchizedek's name means righteousness, and he was the king of a place called peace.
0:39.0	And when he showed up in Genesis 14, he brought out bread and wine.
0:42.7	And the author of Hebrews makes a case for Melchizedek being greater than Abraham, because
0:46.5	he bestowed a blessing to Abraham.
0:48.9	The idea of someone being greater than Abraham was probably shocking to Jewish readers.
0:53.1	It's a pretty great story.

1:02.1	Another interesting thing about Melchizedek is that he wasn't a descendant of the line
1:05.2	of Levi, and all the priests during the Old Covenant were supposed to be descended from

1:09.9	But there's a good reason he wasn't a descendant of Levi, because he lived about 500 years
1:14.0	before Levi was born.
1:15.9	As a non-livitical priest, one not descended from Levi, Melchizedek kind of sets a precedent
