0:13.1	Our New Testament readers finished their 17th book today and our full Bible readers finished
0:17.3	their 56th book.
0:19.5	Today and tomorrow, Paul is writing letters to the young new leaders of relatively young
0:23.4	churches.
0:24.6	One of the things that's interesting to notice is which information he shares with both
0:28.0	leaders and what is specific to just one leader.
0:31.5	That can help us as we try to learn more about the context of each church's problems and
0:36.0	or which instructions and counsel are universal to all churches.
0:40.5	Timothy is one of the leaders of the church in Ephesus, which Paul planted.
0:44.3	Ephesus is the town where they worshiped so many false gods, specifically the goddess
0:48.0	Artemis, that the Silversmith Union started a riot over the gospel.
0:52.6	The Ephesians are so steeped in their culture of pagan worship that Timothy has a real battle
0:56.7	on his hands when it comes to good doctrine and orderly practice.
1:00.1	They are wheels off.
1:02.4	So Paul's letter is bookended by his desire for them to have good doctrine.
1:06.5	They're proud and unteachable and to make matters worse, they want to be teachers and

1:12.0	But good leaders are first and foremost good followers.
1:15.4	You can imagine how intimidating this scenario could be for Timothy.
1:18.8	He is the new guy in town and he's younger than most of the church members and here Paul
1:22.4	is telling him to rebuke the locals who want to be leaders but who aren't even obeying
