0:00.0	Hey Bible Readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for The Bible Recap.
0:07.0	Today opens with one of the most powerful dense chapters in the whole Bible,
0:16.7	Romans 8. This is a crowd favorite. It opens by saying there is therefore now no
0:22.0	condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
0:24.7	So of course we love it already.
0:26.6	One important thing to do anytime you see a connecting word in your Bible is to see what it's
0:30.8	connecting you too. Words like, so, because, since, therefore,
0:36.0	these words point us to cause and meaning and motive.
0:39.0	For instance, this verse has the word therefore right at the beginning, which means it's connecting
0:44.6	us back to the end of chapter 7, where Paul was talking about Jesus delivering us from ourselves.
0:50.1	The way this connects is, Jesus delivers us from ourselves,
0:53.6	Therefore, there is no condemnation for anyone who is in Christ.
0:57.7	Even though the individual sentences make total sense on their own,
1:01.2	context and connection can really help us see more of the big picture.
1:06.1	Paul revisits themes from yesterday, the juxtaposition of the spirit and the flesh and
1:10.0	how Christ traded his life for hours.
1:12.6	He tells us to set our minds on the things of the Spirit.
1:15.8	Paul encourages us to choose wisely what we think about,
1:18.6	because our thoughts will become our actions.
1:21.2	He says we have the power to do this because we have the spirit,
1:24.0	whereas the lost are helpless to fight sin with anything other than another type of sin.
1:28.8	For instance, they might fight gluttony with vanity or fear with control. But either way, sin still wins. That is not victory and it is not freedom.
