0:13.1	Today we open with the disciples bringing a debate to Jesus about which one of them is
0:16.9	the most awesome.
0:18.3	I think there's a chance that the special attention Jesus has been showing to Peter,
0:21.8	as well as James and John, the three guys in his tightest inner circle, may have caused
0:26.0	the others to start comparing themselves to them.
0:28.5	It's a natural human response, but as usual, Jesus points out that the natural human response
0:33.6	is often the opposite of the upside down kingdom response.
0:37.7	He says humility is connected to greatness, and if they aren't humble, they won't be
0:41.5	in the kingdom at all, much less be the greatest there.
0:44.6	God values humility, which is a stark contrast to the ancient view, where humility equals weakness.
0:50.8	In this chapter, Jesus often uses children in his illustrations.
0:54.8	At this time, children are viewed more like property, so by using them as an illustration,
0:59.0	he's showing the value of children as humans and image bearers.
1:02.6	He shows how they should be treated with care.
1:05.0	Then he seems to draw a correlation between children and his disciples, referring to them
1:09.0	as little ones.
1:11.0	Some commentators think the phrase used here is referring to all believers, and others
1:14.8	think it's referring to new believers.
1:17.6	And for whoever that phrase is referring to, Jesus indicates that there are angels who
1:21.3	watch over them while also being in the presence of God.
1:24.5	By the way, the word angel means messenger.
