0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble, and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:13.1	Not long ago, Jesus chose 12 of his many disciples to be in his inner circle.
0:18.1	Eventually, scripture starts referring to these 12 as apostles and distinguishes them
0:22.2	from the other disciples.
0:23.9	Depending on who you ask, you'll get a different answer for whether the title Apostle
0:27.6	is something we can use today, and if so, what that might look like, we'll link to

0:33.7	Strictly speaking, the word disciple means a learner, and the word Apostle refers to
0:38.0	a messenger who is sent out.
0:40.1	Today, we see Jesus sending out 12 of his disciples as apostles.
0:45.1	Before he sends them out, he gives them authority over things he knows they're going to encounter,
0:49.1	demons, disease, and affliction.
0:51.2	Obviously, you can't give something you don't have, so it's noteworthy that Jesus has
0:55.5	already exercised this authority in front of them multiple times, because they've seen
1:00.5	him cast out demons and heal the sick, they know firsthand that he has this authority
1:04.6	to give to them.
1:05.6	He's not just making it up so they can feel good about themselves.
1:08.8	He gives them a few specific instructions as they set out.
1:12.2	Instruction number one, he gives them directions.
1:14.5	He tells them to only go to the Jews, not the Gentiles, or even the Samaritans who are
1:18.6	half Gentile, half Jewish.
1:20.5	This seems contradictory to what Jesus has been doing himself, doesn't it?
