0:13.0	Jesus loves a good parable, it's one of his favorite teaching tools.
0:16.6	A parable is a short story that usually has one main point or idea, though occasionally
0:20.8	more, and it's often generalized, meaning there are no specific people or places listed
0:25.5	just broad facts.
0:27.3	Today, when we meet up with Jesus by the Sea of Galilee, he's got a lot of parables
0:31.4	for us.
0:32.4	We'll only cover the main one today and tomorrow we'll talk about the others.
0:35.9	This is a parable about the gospel.
0:37.9	Jesus compares it to a seed.
0:39.6	The seed of the gospel is spread all around, and it falls on lots of different types of
0:43.5	soil, for, to be exact.
0:45.7	So this is often called the parable of the sower or the parable of the four soils.
0:50.0	The soils represent four different ways the gospel can be received.
0:53.8	The bad news is, three out of the four soils don't receive the gospel very well.
0:58.1	We'll look at why in a second, but the good news is, the one soil that does produces
1:02.7	lots of fruit from the seed.
1:04.6	In fact, it's up to a 100-fold increase.
1:08.0	The first soil is the path, but the birds come and devour the seed.
1:12.0	Jesus compares this to anyone who hears the gospel, but doesn't really understand it.
1:15.9	Then the enemy comes and snatches it away.
1:18.2	Jesus says it's not important for people to just hear the gospel, but for people to understand
