0:13.1	If you've ever felt like a JV prayer, you're in good company.
0:16.8	Even the apostles asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.
0:19.5	The good news is, just like any conversation you have with a person, it's a skill you can
0:23.8	learn.
0:24.8	We don't have time to dig in deep on this, but there are a few things worth noting in
0:28.3	the prayer Jesus teaches His followers that I want to highlight.
0:31.4	First, Jesus tells them to pray to the Father, not to Him.
0:35.8	If we aren't careful, we end up putting the three persons of the Trinity in a blender
0:39.2	and mixing them all up together as though they're the same.
0:42.1	While they are one and they are unified in their will and purpose, they're also distinct
0:47.1	in their roles.
0:48.8	In scripture, the most normative way we see prayer modeled is to pray to the Father,
0:52.9	through the Son, by the Spirit.
0:54.8	Jesus is the mediator between us and the Father, and the Spirit empowers our prayers through
0:59.6	the Son to the Father.
1:01.9	That's not to say we can't or shouldn't pray to the Son or Spirit.
1:04.7	It definitely enriches our relationship and deepens our understanding of God when we
1:09.2	think intentionally about which person of the Trinity we're praying to and talk to them
1:12.9	according to their roles.
1:14.9	The more we get to know Him, the more natural this will become.
