Summary

We begin exploring the Third Commandment and learn about rest and worship concerning the Lord’s Day. The Catechism points out that God models what he wants for us as he also rested on the seventh day. Fr. Mike explains the importance of prioritizing rest for ourselves because we are free and no longer enslaved people. The Catechism describes how we are to keep the Lord’s Day holy with “outward, visible, public, and regular worship ‘as a sign of his universal beneficence to all.’” Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2168-2176.

0:49.0	Today is day 281. You guys, I know I said this yesterday, but this is incredible.
0:53.0	I mean, we're close to 300, which means we're close to 365, which means we're close to completing the entire Catechism.
0:59.0	Here we are completed yesterday, the second commandment. Today we're starting the third commandment, which is so good, because why?
1:05.0	Well, you know the first through the third commandment directly relate to God.
1:09.0	And then, of course, starting after this, commandments 4 through 10, how do we relate to each other?
1:15.0	There's something about this, of course, the first commandment. Have no other gods before the Lord God.
1:19.0	And the second commandment, to keep Holy the Lord's name.
1:22.0	But this third commandment about, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
1:26.0	There's something, again, we come back to this worship, come back to what we owe to God.
1:30.0	Remember, we talked about this before because the Catechism highlights this, that the virtue of justice,
1:35.0	the primary sub-virtue of justice is the virtue of religion.
1:39.0	And the way in which we express live out the virtue of religion is through worship.
1:44.0	And so what we'll talk about today is just the beginnings of that.
