0:07.0	The Major prophet Daniel lived through some of the most well-known Old Testament
0:17.2	stories and wrote some of the most perplexing Old Testament prophecies.
0:20.8	Before we talk about his book, let's talk about him as a person.
0:24.8	Daniel's life and ministry spanned the entire 70-year period of Babylonian
0:29.5	captivity and he was one of the people deported.
0:32.7	He handled his circumstances well though, really well.
0:35.8	He was a man of prayer, faith, courage, and integrity.
0:39.4	And Ezekiel, another major prophet who lived during the same time period had only good things to say about him.
0:45.6	As for his book, the first half is filled with the stories we know and love, and it's referred to as
0:50.9	hope literature. The back half of the book is filled with and it's referred to as Hope Literature.
0:52.8	The back half of the book is filled with apocalyptic prophecies,
0:56.1	so this is sometimes referred to as the Apocalypse of the Old Testament.
1:00.2	What does that word mean anyway?
1:02.2	The Greek word apocalypseis is where we get our English word,
1:05.8	Revelation.
1:06.8	So the Book of Revelation in the New Testament
1:09.1	is actually named Apocalypse.
1:11.9	We associate that word with destruction and war, but its original meaning is quite
1:16.0	different. It means to reveal or to unveil things previously unknown, hence revelation.
1:22.0	And that's exactly what Daniel is doing in these
1:24.6	apocalyptic prophecies. He reveals to us what God has revealed to him about God's
