Summary

As Fr. Mike begins the book of Lamentations, we read about Jeremiah’s sorrow as he witnesses the siege and suffering of Jerusalem. In the book of Jeremiah, we hear a word of comfort from the Lord to Baruch. Today’s readings are Jeremiah 45-46, Lamentations 1, and Proverbs 17:21-28.

0:22.4	We're reading today from Jeremiah, chapter 45 and 46.
0:26.2	And chapter 45 is a little word of comfort to Baruch.
0:29.7	Remember Baruch is the scribe, the one who's writing down the words of Jeremiah.
0:33.3	And he's been discouraged.
0:34.4	He is disheartened.
0:35.4	And we also, this is a flashback in case you're wondering.
0:38.4	Remember the book of Jeremiah is not incredibly chronological.
0:41.9	So this is going back to before even the complete destruction of Jerusalem and before he and
0:47.4	Baruch and Jeremiah were carted off to Egypt.
0:50.3	So chapter 46 begins this section of God's words of condemnation, God's words of judgment
0:57.2	essentially on the nation's surrounding Judah.
1:00.8	So that goes from 46 to 51.
1:02.6	So that's going to be what's happening today in the next couple days, as well as lamentations
1:06.7	chapter 1.
1:07.7	So lamentations chapter 1, if you remember the context, is when the Babylonians were
1:12.0	besieging the city of Jerusalem, it was horrible.
