Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible Recap. Today we finished our 23rd book of the Bible, the minor prophet Nahum.

0:17.0

His words are directed toward the city of Nineveh, which is the capital city of Assyria.

0:21.5

We've read a lot about Assyria lately.

0:23.4

Yesterday they planned an attack on Jerusalem after already attacking 46 other

0:28.1

cities in Judah but were thwarted by the angel of the Lord. And before that, they attacked and destroyed the Northern

0:35.0

Kingdom of Israel and took its people into exile. And we've also read about a

0:39.2

serious capital city, Nineveh before. It's the city God sent Jonah to rebuke roughly a hundred years ago.

0:45.2

At the time they repented, although Jonah wasn't too happy about it. But here we are

0:49.9

a hundred years later and they've fallen back into their wicked ways, as evidenced by their actions

0:54.8

toward both kingdoms of God's people.

0:57.1

Naeham only explicitly mentions Neneva a few times in this book.

1:01.9

1:05.7

1:11.8

that second level meaning many prophecies do of being able to apply to future

1:15.6

scenarios too. Nahum's message is that God will always judge evil.

1:21.1

There have been and will continue to be evil empires throughout time, and none of them will

1:26.4

outlive God in his judgment. Specifically here, God is judging Assyria for the way they've treated

1:32.2

his people.

1:33.2

He starts out with a reminder of who he is in chapter 1 verses 2 through 3.

1:37.6

And this passage sounds a lot like Exodus 34, 6 through 7,

1:41.9

which has been a common refrain throughout the Old Testament.

1:45.0

In fact we talked about it just four days ago on day 212. It's where God tells Moses his name.
