Welcome to Day 2 in our 40-day journey through the Gospel of John during the season of land.

0:15.7

Yesterday, we looked at the poetic masterpiece that is the first 18 verses of John chapter 1, and we met Jesus Christ.

0:22.9

Today, we meet another fascinating character in John's Gospel, starting in verse 19 and going

0:28.5

through verse 34, and this is John the Baptist. Not to be confused with the author of John's

0:33.3

Gospel, this is John the Baptist. Yesterday, it was the Word of God that becomes human and dwells

1:41.8

He came right out and said, I am not the Messiah. It's kind of an odd thing to say in

1:47.8

response to a simple question. If somebody asked you, who are you? Would you think to say,

1:52.8

I'm not the Messiah is the first response? It is a bit odd until you realize the context of what's

2:00.0

happening here. Let me try to unpack that for you.

2:03.1

The religious leaders and John the Baptist Day were used to having all the power and
