The Bible in a year podcast is brought to you by Ascension.

0:13.4

Using the great adventure Bible timeline, we'll read all the way from Genesis to Revelation, discovering how the story of salvation unfolds and how we fit into that story today.

0:21.1

It is day 154. It is our second messianic checkpoint. We begin today. We're reading Mark

0:27.4

chapters 1 and chapter 2. We're also praying Psalm 11. One little note about the gospel of Mark

0:32.9

after these words, the words that you always heard, you hear every single day. We are reading, I am reading from the Bible translation known as the revised standard version, the second Catholic edition. I'm using the Great Adventure Bible from Ascension. 1:03.7

messianic checkpoint, Mark's Gospel. Now, Mark is the shortest gospel. And so this is going to be

1:08.9

a great experience. I'm so excited. When we went

1:12.2

through with Gospel John, the Gospel of John is one of the longer Gospels, and we're going to

1:16.6

the opposite. Mark, the shortest gospel. Now, not only are we kind of going to the opposite gospel.

1:22.2

Mark, Matthew, and Luke are known as the Synoptic Gospels, and that means that they will, they're very, very similar.

1:28.6

In fact, St. John in the Gospel of John

1:31.2

is completely unique from the other three Gospels.

1:34.4

But Mark, Matthew, and Luke are very similar to each other.

1:38.8

One of the things that we note about this

1:40.8

is that scholars have pointed out that the gospel of Mark is probably the basis

1:47.4

or the foundation for the Gospels of Matthew and the Gospels of Luke that Matthew and Luke must

1:52.8

have, or very, very likely use Mark as one of their templates to tell their story about Jesus's

1:59.2

life. And so we kind of have like the original, the OG, old G gospel right here when it comes

2:04.9

to Mark's Gospel.
