0:13.4	In the beginning of Psalm 26, it may seem like David is boasting about his righteousness,
0:18.6	but as he continues on, he makes it clear that the source of his righteousness is God's
0:23.2	steadfast love.
0:24.7	That's what enables him to trust in God.
0:27.7	In verse 3, he says he's walking in God's faithfulness, not his own.
0:32.2	This is another crucial distinction.
0:34.8	He loves the nearness of God and hates the things God opposes.
0:39.0	This Psalm was likely written about the time when so many of David's friends and family
0:42.7	betrayed him and joined forces with his estranged son Absalom.
0:46.8	So the references to hypocrites and men of falsehood make a lot of sense.
0:51.4	David used to walk closely with these men, so you can see why he would want to set himself
0:55.4	apart from him now that they've shown their true colors.
0:58.8	He wants to be markedly different as a man of integrity for the glory of God.
1:03.0	He wants to be vindicated as he disassociates from the evil doers.
1:08.2	Psalm 40 covers a lot of ground.
1:10.4	This was written to be a corporate song, but it was almost certainly born out of a lot
1:13.9	of David's personal experiences.
1:16.6	If we zoom out on the timeline of his life, this Psalm almost seems to fit his storyline
1:21.0	perfectly so far.
1:23.0	In verse 1, he waits patiently before the Lord, just as he waited 15 years to be king.
1:28.8	In verse 2, God drew him up out of the pit of destruction when Saul was trying to destroy
