0:13.2	David has had a rough time lately so his songs are going to reflect that.
0:18.0	We open today with Psalm 3, which he wrote when he had to flee Jerusalem because of Absalom's
0:22.3	attempt to steal the throne from him.
0:24.9	The people he used to lead are now speaking ill of his soul.
0:28.4	They're saying he's beyond saving.
0:31.5	Not only is that hurtful to David personally, I'm sure, but it's also an affront to God's

0:37.6	God loves to save even the most wicked and vile.
0:41.1	It displays his mercy and forgiveness.
0:45.1	David has no idea how many people Absalom has turned against him, but it's at least in
0:49.1	the hundreds if not thousands, especially given all the people Absalom won over when he

0:55.6	So in verse 6, when David says, many thousands of people have set themselves against me
1:00.2	all around, this doesn't seem to be hyperbole.
1:04.0	Despite all that, David knows who God is.
1:07.0	He trusts God and asks God to rescue him.
1:09.6	These circumstances haven't dimmed the brightness of God's goodness to him.
1:14.0	In Psalm 4, we see a lot of the same themes repeated, except this song was written for corporate
1:19.0	worship, not personal worship, so it's less specific to David's life than Psalm 3 is.
1:25.0	This song expresses confidence in God and points out that the anger David feels for being
1:29.2	mistreated has to be submitted to God too.
