0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:13.4	We open today with Psalm 50, which is a strong rebuke against people who misunderstand God's
0:18.7	heart.
0:19.7	There were Israelites who viewed the sacrificial system as a trade-off for sinning, like
0:24.0	a penalty you pay and then everything is fine again, like some kind of speeding ticket.
0:28.9	But God says that's never been what this is about.
0:32.0	In verses 8-15, He basically says, I don't want your bulls and goats and birds, I want
0:38.4	your heart.
0:40.4	For some of them this may have been very confusing, like, then why did you spend so much
0:44.0	time telling us about the sacrifices?
0:46.7	They weren't paying attention.
0:48.6	And because of that lack of attention, they missed the very details that would reveal
0:52.4	God's heart to them.
0:54.0	Instead, they just viewed Him as greedy as though He needed food to eat like all the pagan
0:59.0	gods.
1:00.0	Meanwhile, their hearts are far from Him.
1:02.6	They're doing wicked things or approving of others who do wicked things or even just sitting
1:06.7	by idly complicit when sin is committed.
1:09.9	God rebukes them for this.
1:11.8	He wants them to remember Him.
1:14.3	And one way to do that is to bring in their gratitude and thanksgiving.
1:19.0	Psalm 53 is a lot like a Psalm we've already covered, Psalm 14.
