thinking about it and today's smart person is Philip Bump. He is a national columnist for

So, what's top of mind?

One of the things that's sort of fascinating about this election cycle, which I think you would probably recognize is the extent to which it seems to be background

likes, right? Like in 2016, it seemed as though the United States was absolutely obsessed with what was happening.

In 2020, there were a lot of other things going on at the same time

which I think you know sort of muted that to some extent but this election cycle despite

the stakes despite how tumultuous spins despite all the various history-making points along

line. It still feels as though it's just not a lot of attention being paid to it, which is odd, right?

You know, especially because the stakes are so high. I think part of that is because it really truly is this incredibly close contest and you know everyone I think is justifiably but often exaggeratedly,
