0:11.5	We covered seven Psalms today.
0:14.6	One of my favorite parts about Psalm 43 is how David preaches the truth to himself.
0:20.0	He's struggling and he feels far from God,
0:22.2	but he speaks reminders of the truth to his own soul in verse 5. Why are you downcast,
0:27.5	oh my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise him,
0:33.9	my salvation and my God. David tells his heart and mind what to do. This is exactly the
0:40.8	kind of thing Moses told the Israelites to do in tough times, to remember who God is and what he has done.
0:46.5	David is putting Moses' words into practice hundreds of years later. In Psalm 44, we see that the
0:52.8	writers, the sons of Cora, are even relying on the things God has done for their ancestors, not just themselves personally, as a source of praise.
1:01.2	They remember that God is the one who grants victory, not a man's strong arm or a sword or a bow, especially since sometimes Israel didn't even take weapons to war at all.
1:12.8	Remember back when Moses warned the Israelites against three kinds of sinful thinking? One was fearful thought and two were
1:18.4	prideful thoughts. In Deuteronomy 8, Moses addressed the second kind of prideful thought by saying,
1:25.1	Beware lest you say in your heart, my power and the might of my hand
1:28.8	have gotten me this wealth. You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to
1:33.7	get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers as it is this day.
1:39.7	Again, the writers are doing exactly what Moses encouraged them to do. They're walking in humility,
1:45.5	and it leads them to praise God. But right now, the sons of Cora are confused, because God
1:51.0	doesn't seem to currently be granting the kind of victory he did in the past. From their vantage point,
1:56.7	it seems like God has not kept up his end of the covenant, so they're taking that concern to God himself.
2:02.8	They have no idea what kind of sin might be prompting God's silence on their behalf,
2:07.6	and they ask God to come to their rescue.
