| 0:24.4 | camping in the desert. Today he starts out with some laws about worship. He |
| 0:28.4 | reminds them that they're entering into foreign territory where pagan gods are |

| 0:33.4 | If anyone does worship those other gods, |
| 0:35.8 | there will be a trial involving at least two witnesses |
| 0:39.0 | before the death penalty is given. |
| 0:41.4 | And the witnesses are the ones who have to carry out that justice. So if they're |
| 0:45.2 | lying, then they'd be guilty of murder. And because these situations can be complex and |
| 0:50.1 | challenging sometimes, God sets up a court of appeals made up of judges and |
| 0:54.6 | priest to handle the more difficult matters. Moses predicts that there will be a day |
| 0:59.6 | after they settle in the land when they'll look around and be like, |
| 1:03.6 | hey, all these other nations have kings. |
| 1:05.7 | We should get one of those. |
| 1:07.4 | When the time comes, God will choose an Israelite for them |
| 1:10.3 | to set up as a king over them. But it's important for their kings not to be drawn to wealth, power, or women. |
| 1:17.0 | If you know much about any Israel-like kings, you already know this isn't going to end well. |
| 1:22.0 | The prohibition against these things was supposed |
| 1:24.2 | to keep them humble and trusting in God for their provision and protection instead of |
| 1:28.6 | in what they could acquire for themselves. Wealth can lead a person's heart astray. |
