0:07.0	Today we open our reading with God telling Moses and Aaron that Pharaoh is not going to
0:17.5	listen to them. God says he's going to harden Pharaoh's heart against the request they're
0:21.6	bringing. That's a pretty tough order. He also
0:25.2	mentioned this yesterday in 421. One thing this reveals to us is that God is sovereign
0:30.4	over hearts. If you're new to this idea or it's troublesome for you,
0:34.6	resist the urge to read into God's motives or draw conclusions about him based on this.
0:39.5	For now, let's just notice that he can change hearts.
0:44.3	God also mentions several times that he's doing all of this
0:47.4	so that Israel will know that he is the Lord.
0:51.1	The meaning of the word no doesn't just refer to some cognizant assent to this reality.
0:56.8	It has more to do with a person's posture in response to that truth.
1:01.0	God wants them to believe it in their bones, not just acknowledge it as a fact, and he wants their
1:06.6	lives to reflect it. The plagues will serve this same purpose for the Egyptians, for them to know
1:12.3	that he is the Lord. But unfortunately
1:14.9	it's possible to know that God is the Lord of all and still not yield to him. Remember
1:19.6	the sons of God we've encountered a few times, including the one called Satan, the accuser,
1:24.4	these fallen angels would have lived in heaven with God before their fall, serving Him.
1:29.4	Who would know the truth more than they would?
1:32.2	But they didn't yield to God as Lord. They insisted on
1:36.3	their own way. So Moses and Aaron go before Pharaoh and they warn him that there will
1:41.4	be displays of God's power if he continues to rebel,
