0:07.0	Today will be a little longer than usual because we're in a new book which means
0:16.6	we have some introductory ground to cover.
0:18.9	We just finished Genesis, a word that means beginning and today we begin the book of Exodus, which means exit or departure.
0:25.6	Even though most English translations don't include it, this book actually starts out with the
0:30.5	Hebrew word that carries the meaning and, which is one way we see its connection to the book of Genesis.
0:36.0	This is a continuation of the story we've been in.
0:39.0	The first five books of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,
0:43.0	Deuteronomy were originally one book, which the Jews called
0:46.7	the Torah.
0:47.6	It's also referred to as the Pentatuke,
0:49.9	which is a collection of five books.
0:52.1	Most historians believe that all five books of the Torah
0:54.8	were primarily written by Moses, a man will meet in our reading today. He was born roughly
0:59.8	300 years after Joseph died.
1:03.2	So when the book opens, we're three centuries past the end of Genesis.
1:07.2	If you had a keen eye back in Genesis 15,
1:10.0	you may remember God's words to Abraham.
1:12.8	Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in the land that is not theirs
1:17.0	and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for 400 years.
1:21.3	But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall
1:24.9	come out with great possessions.
