0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:07.0	Today will be a little longer than usual because we're in a new book which means we have
0:17.0	some introductory ground to cover.
0:19.0	We just finished Genesis, a word that means beginning, and today we begin the book of Exodus,
0:23.6	which means exit or departure.
0:26.0	Even though most English translations don't include it, this book actually starts out
0:30.3	with the Hebrew word that carries the meaning AND.
0:33.7	Which is one way we see its connection to the book of Genesis.
0:36.3	This is a continuation of the story we've been in.
0:39.4	The first five books of the Bible, Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy, were originally
0:44.8	one book, which the Jews called the Torah.
0:47.8	It's also referred to as the Pentateuch, which is a collection of five books.
0:52.4	But historians believe that all five books of the Torah were primarily written by Moses,
0:56.7	a man will meet in our reading today.
0:59.1	He was born roughly 300 years after Joseph died.
1:03.3	So when the book opens, we're three centuries past the end of Genesis.
1:07.4	If you had a keen eye back in Genesis 15, you may remember God's words to Abraham.
1:13.0	Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in the land that is not theirs
1:17.0	and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for 400 years.
1:21.5	But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come
1:25.1	out with great possessions.
1:27.8	So God has already given Abraham a heads up about what's going to happen.
