0:07.0	Yesterday, we left off with Jacob's son, Simian and Levi, slaughtering all the men of
0:17.4	Shechem, the town that just moved to, in order to avenge the rape of their sister Dina.
0:22.6	Today, we see Jacob and his family preparing to move out of Shechem.
0:26.4	Good call.
0:27.9	As he packs up, Jacob makes it known to all of his family that from here on out, they're
0:32.5	only going to worship Yahweh and he buries all their gods.
0:36.9	As they pass through the nearby cities, God made all the locals afraid of them.
0:41.6	We don't know how He did it, but God actually created terror in the hearts of those who
0:46.1	oppose Him in order to protect His people.
0:49.2	This is the only place in the whole Bible where this Hebrew word for terror is used.
0:54.4	Once at a time when we refer to things like the fear of God, it means something different
0:58.5	than this word being used here.
1:00.3	Usually, it carries a connotation of reverence and awe, but here, this word has only the
1:05.9	connotation of sheer terror.
1:08.3	We'll talk about this more in a future episode, but I just wanted to plant that seed while

1:14.6	God called Jacob to settle in Bethel.
1:17.0	You may remember Bethel as the place where God appeared to Jacob in His famous ladder dream.
1:21.9	Back then in chapter 28, Jacob set up a pagan pillar on that spot.
1:26.5	But he's a new man now with a new heart, so God sends him back and he replaces the pillar
1:31.9	with an altar.
